BUSINESS owners and residents are being reminded to avoid leaving bags containing household waste and food in the street after a number of bags were ripped apart by seagulls.
One hungry gull was seen tucking into the contents of a number of loose bags left on the pavement in Preston Street in Barrow town centre today.
Barrow Borough Council's streetcare team are tasked with clearing away discarded rubbish, which is a common occurrence in the town centre.
The consequences of fly-tipping in the Borough affect all residents because:
Investigating and cleaning up fly-tipping has to be paid for - the costs are covered by residents through council tax;
It can cause serious pollution of the environment and can be harmful to human health;
It lowers the standard of the local environment and can reduce pride in the local community.
You can report fly-tipping online HERE or by calling the town hall on 01229 876543.
