FLASH Mob dancing, wacky wigs, and wearing odd socks and clothes inside out were just some of the madcap antics seen this Red Nose Day.

Pupils surprised fellow youngsters, teachers and parents with a Red Nose Day Flash Mob in the playground of Victoria Academy today (Friday). When the school bell sounded at 8.55am the Red Nose Day song, Put A Nose On It!, played out and Year Six started to dance and sing.

Amelia Butterfield and her teacher Sarah Chatfield prepared the whole school for a four-hour Red Nose Day danceathon in aid of Comic Relief. But Amelia, 11, Mrs Chatfield and Year Six also rehearsed for the Flash Mob in secret.

Amelia, a Step Up to Serve #iwill ambassador, received a video call from BBC Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox yesterday (Thursday). Coxy, who has just raised more than £1m for Comic Relief with her epic 24-hour danceathon, called Amelia and her friends to wish them luck for their Red Nose Day fundraising events.

The star was interested to hear about Amelia's social action projects. Amelia and her friends Hannah Atkinson and Olivia Knagg, also 11, run Cute As Buttons in school. They sell products to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care and St Mary's Hospice.

Amelia was chosen as national youth ambassador to motivate others with her fundraising and social action work. The pupil started fundraising to help other families when her late father, Ben, was bravely battling cancer. The inspirational young girl continued her important work following the death of her father. Remarkably, she is also a school buddy, helping a pupil with a disability and a great support to her family.

Comic Relief and the #iwill campaign joined forces for Red Nose Day 2017 to inspire more young people to drive positive social change.

Amelia said: "I was nervous that no-one would remember the dance, but we all did and the Flash Mob was a great surprise."

Mrs Chatfield said: "The pupils were so good, the Flash Mob was brilliant."

The Ulverston pupils paid £1 to wear non-uniform, coming to school in their clothes worn back to front, inside out and with odd shoes and socks. The school also had a cake sale.

At Happy Tots Day Nursery, in Barrow, children sported wacky wigs and wacky hairstyles through the week to support Comic Relief. They also made red nose themed biscuits for the cause.
