A 33-year-old man from Barrow has been ordered to carry out unpaid work in the community after admitting using threatening behaviour.

Barry Richards, of School Street, Barrow, appeared before Furness Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He pleaded guilty to the incident, which took place on January 23.

Prosecutor Mr Lee Dacre told how a couple had been stood chatting to a male friend in the doorway of Broadway in Cavendish Street, Barrow, at about 2am.

He said Richards was stood nearby throwing punches towards their friend and was arrested.

Trystan Roberts, defending, said: "This was a short and uneventful fracas which he bitterly regrets."

Richards was told to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work and pay £85 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
