A LOCAL nurse has joined forces with an X Factor star and a pop group to sing on a charity single.

Jo-Anne Helliwell, from Ulverston, has lent her vocal talents to help raise money for children's charity, WellChild.

The charity chose the 2005 Daniel Powter hit Bad Day to record, attracting the help of Scouting for Girls and Josh Daniel who appeared on the X-Factor in 2015.

WellChild works to improve the lives of seriously ill children across the UK.

This year, the charity single will be raising money and awareness for thousands of children and their families who live with severe illnesses.

Mrs Helliwell has worked for Wellchild since 2012, and has more than 20 years experience as a registered nurse in south Cumbria.

She has seen first hand the impact a charity can have on the lives of children and their families.

She said: "It's an amazing network of information and knowledge that spreads. We are like a family and we like to help everybody out."

The chance to travel to London and record the single was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for Mrs Helliwell.

She said: "We had a fantastic day recording the single and it sounds really good now it has been finished, I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

"By downloading the single you will be supporting WellChild’s amazing work and it would be great if as many people as possible could get a copy.

"I'm extremely proud and privileged to take part in things like this that I wouldn't usually get the chance to"

The single was recorded at the Metropolis studio in London, a venue which has seen artists such as Led Zeppelin, Adele, Amy Winehouse and Queen lay down tracks.

During the recording process, Mrs Helliwell was a member of the charity's nurse and family choir.

Colin Dyer, chief executive of WellChild, said: "This single captures a unique spirit that we see time and again among the growing number of families caring for a child at home with exceptional health needs.

"Many work 24/7 and face daily battles to keep their children safe. Their enduring resilience and positivity is an inspiration to us all and this is what we are hoping to convey with our first ever charity single.

"A big thank you to Scouting for Girls and to Josh Daniel for giving up their time and talents to help make it work.

"Thanks also to Jo-Anne and all our WellChild choir of nurses, families and supporters for their enthusiastic contribution and to the team at Metropolis for pulling it all together."

The single has now been released on iTunes, and costs 99p. They money will go towards ensuring the life-changing services WellChild offers continue for a long time.
