THE teenager who was injured after being hit by a car in Barrow is now in a stable condition.

An 18-year-old woman from Barrow was left with critical injuries after she was knocked down by a red Kia Rio in Bridgegate Avenue in Barrow at around 7pm on Monday. The car was being driven by a 21-year-old man from Broughton.

The pedestrian was comforted at the side of the road by witnesses while emergency services arrived at the scene. She was covered with a duvet to prevent her from getting cold.

On arrival, police officers had to pull the girl out from underneath the car. She was taken to Furness General Hospital and later transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital where her injuries were described as critical.

Police have today confirmed her condition is now being described as stable.

Yesterday, collision investigators carried out a number of tests on the road as part of the investigation into the crash.
