A FLOOD warning and various flood alerts have been issued for the south Cumbria coast by the Environment Agency for high tide.

A flood warning - advising people to take immediate action - has been issued for the Cumbrian coastline at north Morecambe Bay tonight.

The affected area includes Roa Island, the coast road, Ulverston, Cartmel Peninsula, Arnside and Silverdale.

The tide is expected to peak between 11.45pm and 12.30pm tonight.

Canal Foot has crossed the tidal flood warning threshold and other areas along this section of coast are close to flood warning thresholds.

People are being warned to stay away from the coast, and Environment Agency officers are checking defences and monitoring sea levels and wind directions.

Alerts - advising people to prepare for possible flooding - are also in place for Barrow and the Duddon Estuary.

The tide is forecast to peak here between 12.15am and 12.45am.

Tidal spray and onshore flooding may occur to roads and some properties along the coast may be affected.

High water can be expected for two hours before and after the high tide peak.
