AN application to change the date of a trial of a Barrow man accused of causing the death of a pensioner by dangerous driving has been rejected.

Prosecutors applied at Preston Crown Court last Thursday to amend the date of the trial of Richard Jack Cupid from Newbarns Road in Barrow.

Cupid, 31, denies causing the death of John Bromley, 81, by dangerous driving in the head-on collision on the A5087 coast road on May 17, 2015. He admits causing death by careless driving.

Mr Bromley, who was driving a Ford Fiesta, died at the scene after the Transit van, driven by Cupid, veered on to the wrong side of the road.

The trial originally started in April, but was halted on day four due to legal difficulties with the case.

The case was listed at Preston Crown Court on Thursday at the prosecution's request to change the date of the retrial, but the request was rejected by the judge.

Cupid will go on trial as scheduled on October 30.
