TWO Northern Rail operated trains from Barrow to Preston and vice versa have been cancelled this evening due to staff shortages.

The train operator confirmed on its Twitter feed that the 8:15pm train from Barrow to Preston and the 9:47pm train from Preston to Barrow have both had to be cancelled due to staff shortages.

Commuters looking to travel to Preston will instead have to wait until 9:43pm for that service or use the rail replacement bus service which is known to take a considerable length of time.

Those looking to get from Preston to Barrow can get an earlier service at 9:09pm or a later one at 11:13pm.

This is the second time that the 9:47pm train from Preston to Barrow train has had to be cancelled after it was taken out of service on December 27 - again due to staff shortages.
