Commuters looking to travel to Preston will instead have to wait until 9:43pm for that service or use the rail replacement bus service which is known to take a considerable length of time.
Those looking to get from Preston to Barrow can get an earlier service at 9:09pm or a later one at 11:13pm.
This is the second time that the 9:47pm train from Preston to Barrow train has had to be cancelled after it was taken out of service on December 27 - again due to staff shortages.
