THE long awaited reopening of the Lindal Dip has been pushed back after safety concerns were raised.
Motorists were left confused and angry yesterday after being promised free-flowing traffic, but once again faced long queues.
A section of the A590 was closed completely overnight on Thursday and Friday in anticipation of both carriageways reopening.
A spokesman from Highways England said: "The original plan was for the road to be open by 6am yesterday morning, but not all the work has been completed.
"Hopefully the traffic lights will be removed by Monday morning."
Safety concerns were raised over adequate lighting in the centre of the carriageway. Until those issues could be addressed, it was felt the safest option was to retain the traffic lights.
A revised reopening of both carriageways is slated for Monday "at some point" according to the Highways England spokesman.
More details are expected to be released on Monday.
