After 43 miles yesterday, the thought of doing one today might seem like an even bigger ask to many of the thousands who completed the Keswick and Coniston to Barrow walks this year.

Yet that is exactly the advice of one local fitness expert.

Go Active ambassador Wayne Singleton has some top tips for those recovering for the heroic challenge today.

He said: "While it might not feel the greatest if you're not in a lot of pain it's best to do some gentle exercise today, even if it's a short walk or a little bike ride.

"It'll help with what is known as DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) on Monday, and I know a lot of physios use the phrase 'motion is lotion'.

"If your legs are really painful in places remember RICE - rest, compression, ice and elevation.

"Basically try and compress the area, get your feet up and put a teatowel on the area with a bag of frozen peas on top. That will help reduce any inflammation."

As well as a short exercise, Mr Singleton believes it's important to eat and drink well today.

"Try and get plenty of fluid down. It's important to get fully rehydrated and not just with beer and wine!

"Try to drink plenty of water today and eat. Try to get a load of good nutritional intake in today.

"You'll probably crave a lot of junk food, which you are more than deserving of, but your body needs the good stuff too.

"Try to get some fruit and veg in as well, it should all help speed your recovery."
