Sarah McClay was pounced on by Padang in the keeper's corridor of the tiger house at South Lakes Wild Animal Park. She was airlifted from the scene to Royal Preston Hospital where she was formally pronounced dead.

The Furness community rallies to support a fundraising drive set up by Miss McClay's family, raising thousands of pounds for the Red Squirrel Survival Trust in her memory.

Mourners at Miss McClay's funeral at Thorncliffe Crematorium pay tribute to a "beautiful soul".

August 24 2013

Police say they have concluded their investigation into Miss McClay's death, passing the file over to the Coroner.

An inquest jury in Kendal ruled in a narrative verdict that Padang got to Miss McClay by entering two open internal sliding gates within the tiger house and then an open door that led on to the corridor. David Gill told the jury he took two rifle shots at the animal in the frantic moments after the attack.

November 2014

David Gill announces he is to step down as a director of South Lakes Safari Zoo.

July 2015

Barrow Borough Council completes its investigation into the death of Miss McClay to determine if health and safety laws were breached. It is announced that South Lakes Safari Zoo and its boss David Gill are to be prosecuted.

March 2016

The zoo announced the death of Padang due to "welfare complications arising from his age".

May 8 2016

South Lakes Safari Zoo plead guilty to breaching the Health and Safety Act. The prosecution offered no evidence against Mr Gill and formal not guilty verdicts were recorded against him.

May 10 2016

Sentencing will take place at Preston Crown Court on Friday.
