A TRIO of Furness singers will this weekend go head-to-head with performers from across the region in a talent contest to win cash prizes for a charity of their choice.

They will take to the stage at the Lancaster Grand Theatre on Saturday night aiming to win a share of more than £3,000 in the final of the Charity Stars talent competition -organised by Furness Building Society and The Bay Radio.

Among the line-up of 14 acts on stage will be Alex McCormack, 12, of Barrow, who is appearing for the Lookin Good Feelin Good support group set up by women in Furness who have suffered from cancer or are undergoing treatment.

Also in the final is Christopher Barker, 25, of Barrow, who is representing the town’s Cast Theatre Company which aims to involve the widest selection of young people in staging shows in the town.

Finally Rebecca Williams, 16, of Walney, is singing for Barrow Vision Support Centre which runs Ostley House.

She has been a regular visitor there since she was 10-years-old and was invited to recite poetry there after winning a national competition.

Other entries include two Wild Cards voted into the final by the Bay Radio audience.

Sarah Wane, Furness Building Society marketing support manager, who was one of the judges, said: “With so many talented people performing to put the spotlight on the wonderful work of these charities and their fantastic volunteers, we are looking forward to another brilliant final.

"The society is proud to give them a platform to promote that work, and of course, help to raise vital funds.”

Every finalist is already assured of gaining at least £100 for their chosen charity, and the top three acts will collect cash prizes of £1000, £750 and £500.

The ultimate winner will also get the chance to become a ‘Star for a Day at The Bay’ with interviews and a video session at the radio station.

The videos for all of the finalists can be found at  www.furnessbs.co.uk/charitystars or www.thebay.co.uk/promotions/charity-stars .

Tickets for the show are available from the Lancaster Grand Theatre box office, priced at £5 each.
