A LOVER of rock 'n' roll didn't let his terminal illness get in the way of him having a good time as he put on a charity concert.

Alan Griffiths, of Vernon Street, Barrow, put on a special show on Saturday night at the Kill One club in Duke Street to raise funds for Macmillan and the Royal British Legion.

The 63-year-old has incurable lung cancer and for the last few weeks has been busying himself making wonderful memories for his friends and family as well as fundraising.

As a huge fan of rock 'n' roll music, Mr Griffiths decided to put on a second charity concert , with live music from This Little Girl and the Dillicats.

Mr Griffiths said: "It was very enjoyable. The band was exceptional. They put on a really good show. It was a great atmosphere.

"I'd rather have this as my farewell rather than just a wake and funeral.

"The Macmillan have supported me and the British Legion have helped me a great deal."

The British Legion has a special place in Mr Griffith's heart as he completed three tours in Northern Ireland in the 1970s in the Royal Corps of Transport.
