FOUR teenagers were rescued by the coastguard yesterday evening after becoming stuck on a slag bank.

The Furness and Morecambe coastguard team and the Barrow inshore lifeboat were called to the slag bank on the east side of Walney Channel shortly before 7.30pm.

Once on scene it was established that one casualty was at the bottom of the slag bank with leg injuries.

A second casualty was also stranded approximately half way down unable to move in either direction.

Furness Coastguard therefore split into two teams, one coordinating the rescue of the second casualty from the top of the Slag bank with Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team.

The other team assisted in extracting the casualty with leg injuries to North West Ambulance Service.

Barrow Lifeboat and Millom Coastguard Rescue Team was also called in to assist and provide safety cover as as the tide was quickly rising.

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service were also in attendance.

If in trouble at sea or on the coast call 999 and ask for Coastguard.
