A MAN has been jailed for three years in connection with drugs and money laundering offences in Barrow.

Zuhaib Hussain, 18, was sentenced today at Preston Crown court following a guilty plea to possession with intent to supply Class A controlled drugs, namely cocaine and heroin, and money laundering.

Hussain was arrested on March 4 at an address on Sidney Street, Barrow, as part of Cumbria Police’s Operation Quadrant which resulted in numerous arrests.

Hussain, of Abercarn Close, Manchester, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment in a young offenders institution and has been ordered to forfeit the £535 seized from him at the time of his arrest and pay a victim surcharge of £30.

Detective Constable Matt McFall, said: “We have recently seen a rise in people coming from the Manchester area to Barrow in Furness to engage in the supply of Class A drugs. This sentence shows that drug dealing will not be tolerated and has significant consequences for those who choose to take part in this form of criminality."

Police in South Cumbria made 20 arrests and seized drugs with the street value of £72,000 during the two-week Operation Quadrant.

Officers and staff from uniform and CID departments focused on criminals who target the most vulnerable in our communities, such as suspected drug dealers and burglars.

During the week warrants were executed on 12 addresses, these included raids in Barrow.
