A DAREDEVIL teen has put down his BMX to show off his entrepreneurial skill by organising a competition at a Barrow skate park.

Josh Dickinson, 15, of Hogue Street, Walney is hoping this competition will be the first of many as he tries to ramp up the popularity of BMXs in the town.

Although still in school, Josh has secured sponsors and prizes for the event, an achievement which shows how passionate he is about the sport.

He said: "We've got three different sessions, beginner, intermediate and professional. People will be doing multiple tricks in a certain time. You've got to do the best tricks you can to win."

Josh is fairly new to the BMX scene. He has been riding for just over a year, but has come to love the sport, and learn proficiency in a relatively short space of time.

Inspired by larger events such as Boardmasters and Nitro Circus, which draw in thousands of people to watch professionals ride, Josh set about finding official sponsors for the event.

Mafia Bikes and FourDown Distribution are just two sponsors who have signed up to Josh's event.

Alongside them, other sponsors will be providing merchandise, clothing, bike components and prizes to the winners of the competition.

Josh said: "We've got some bike parts sent to us and clothing, things like hats and badges. We're hoping to get some more things before the event."

Despite being young, Josh was determined to get the event off the ground, taking on the bulk of the responsibilities himself.

He said: "I've organised practically the whole thing, the prizes and who's coming."

Josh hinted that some pro skaters and BMX riders may be attending as special guests for the evening.

The competition will take place on Wednesday (08/02 February) at UrbanExtreme in James Freel Close. Billed as the only indoor skate park in Cumbria, the verts, rails and half pipes should provide more than a challenge to all of the competitors.

Entry into the competition costs £6, and it will run between 6pm-9pm at the skate park in James Freel Close.

Joshua said: "Just turn up on the night to enter, you'll be given a wristband which allows you to take part."

If his inaugural event is a success Josh said he would consider holding a second in the near future.

He said: "I've got high hopes for it, I've been organising it for the past few months. I just want everyone to enjoy it.
