A TECH-SAVVY dentist who took over a popular local practice has implemented a new paper-free system.

Eco-friendly Alexander Teckkam and his partner Jasmin Valencia have revamped what used to be Richard Beard Ltd in Hartington Street, Barrow into the paperless Teckkam Dental care.

The pair moved to Ulverston several weeks ago from Leeds, where Mr Teckkam grew up, and decided using iPads for patient records was the way forward.

Dr Teckkam said: It's going really well, the technology is all implemented and we are updating patient history and so far it's been received really well.

"It's good for the environment and the staff and getting on quite well with it and finding it nice and easy to use.

"It's just different and there can be so many problems in having paper records like fires - potentially all of your information could be lost."

The practice backs up all of their data and makes sure it is encrypted to ensure absolute confidentiality and safety.

Dr Teckkam has previously worked in practices in Leeds and spent seven years in London but feels at home in his new Barrow surgery.

He said: "We have had quite a few five star reviews on TripAdvisor so we must be doing something right.

"The patients have been lovely and I am enjoying the move, it is so nice to be so close to the Lakes."

Many firms are being encouraged to ditch paper in an attempt to cost cut and become more environmentally friendly, storing larger amounts of data across a variety of online systems and platforms.
