SWIMMERS looking to take a dip along the area's coastline have been advised to stay on dry land, due to a number of animal faeces reported to have washed up on the shore.
The three designated bathing beaches, West Shore, Sandy Gap and Biggar Bank closed from September 19 and are expected to remain shut until the end of today (24).
The issue is not uncommon across the country and can happen after or during periods of heavy rainfall, which runs through agricultural land.
High tides can wash animal faeces from the Duddon Estuary salt marsh grazing land and reduce bathing water quality for swimmers.
