A 28-YEAR-OLD driver who caused a serious collision on the A595 has been given a suspended sentence.

Adam Jaros, a Czech national of no fixed abode, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court today where he indicated a guilty plea to one charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Jaros was driving a Nissan Qashqai on the A595, just north of Bootle, when he collided with a Peugeot 208 at around 8am yesterday.

The teenage driver of the Peugeot was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital after sustaining pelvis and abdominal injuries and was also treated at the scene by both the North West Ambulance and the Great North Air Ambulance services.

District judge Gerald Chalk gave Jaros a 20-week custodial sentence, suspended for two years, and fined him £900.

He was also ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £115 and disqualified from driving for two years.

Jaros must also sit an extended test after this period if he wishes to get his licence back.
