The read the book as a video played with JK Rowling reading her seventh and final book about the boy wizard.

The novel is the final confrontation between Harry and Lord Voldemort.

Walney School's involvement in the record attempt was organised by English teacher Melanie Gale and librarian Hayley Preston.

Barrow mayor, Councillor Anita Husband, and mayoress Lisa Cassley also joined in the event.

Miss Preston said: "The Harry Potter books are still very, very popular and still have a very wide appeal.

"The students are very keen to learn if we have broken the record.
