SHOW-STOPPING cakes were the order of the day as a whole school community got involved in a bake off challenge.

St James' CE Primary School staged The Great SJS Bake Off and Coffee Afternoon to raise funds for school.

Pupils, teachers, parents, grandparents and friends of the Barrow school showed off their best baking skills last week.

The children made and decorated four cupcakes which were judged on taste, appearance and originality. There were prizes for the winners and certificates for the runners-up from across the year groups.

The Cookie Monster, Minions, chicks and floral themes were all on show.

The adults were tasked with making and decorating large sponge cakes, which were also judged on the same criteria as the children. There were also prizes and certificates for the adults.

There were scrumptious large cakes, including a school logo design.

The judges with the difficult decision of choosing the winners and runners-up were the school's chairman of governors, Councillor Dave Pidduck, Councillor Colin Thomson and his wife, Brenda Thomson.

Hundreds of pounds were raised through the event when the cupcakes and large cakes were then sold off at a busy coffee afternoon held in aid of the school.
