Nursery children have been embracing the charitable spirit of the Christmas season by taking part in a Reindeer Run to raise money for St Mary’s Hospice.

The adorable pre-schoolers donned reindeer antlers and flashing red noses to to look like their favourite Christmas character, Rudolph.

The sponsored event got the children outdoors taking part in a number of physical activities, including running to raise money for the Ulverston Hospice.

Nurseries that took part included Cheeky Monkeys, Hollingarth, The Old Vicarage, Happy Tots, Roose, Jack and Jills Playgroup and Pennington.

Event organiser Melissa Dixon said: “We have visited several nursery’s taking part and the children were just a delight to watch, they looked like they were having such fun too. I would like to thank all the settings taking part this week, this helps raise vital funds for us here at the Hospice.”

It is so heart warming to see children and their parents getting involved in activities for charity.

Gayle Cooke, manager of The Old Vicarage Day Nursery in Hartington Street, Barrow, said: “We have done loads of activities this week including reindeer dancing. They have been outside running for about an hour in the playground this morning, we are lucky to have had lovely weather for it.

“The parents all bought the antlers and noses for the children and they get really excited about wearing them. We encouraged staff and children to wear Christmas jumpers today too, so everyone was really in the festive spirit.”
