SOUTH Cumbria is celebrating A-Level success and toasting our talented 18-year-olds.

Chloe Rowe, of The Green, achieved three As at Barrow Sixth Form College. She is heading to Newcastle University to study biomedicine.

Chloe, who was going to celebrate by doing some shopping, said: "I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The exams were so hard. It was horrible waiting for the results.

"I have really enjoyed my time at college."

Katie Neill, of Barrow, was ecstatic about A*, A and B grades. The Barrow sixth former achieved an A in health and social care after studying the subject in just a year rather than the usual two.

Katie is off to the University of Chester to study primary teaching. "I'm over the moon,"she said.

Anya Wood's next move will be to Manchester City's Etihad Stadium to study football business and marketing with UCFB.

The Barrow sixth former, who volunteers with Barrow AFC, achieved a B,C and D and said: "I'm very happy. I want to be involved in the commercial side of football."

Ellen Wilkinson, 23, said her distinction*/distinction in health and social care and B in English Language means she has achieved her dream of heading to Leicester de Montfort University.

The Barrow Sixth former said “I’m so happy. I have always wanted to go to university and now I’m really glad I took the decision to come back to college, it has been really good and the tutors are brilliant.”

Filmmaker Matthew Dodd was overjoyed with his A,B and C grades.

The teenager who created a welcomed Barrow Blitz documentary and who films Barrow AFC matches for BT Sport and ITV Sport is heading to the University of Salford at MediaCity to study film.

He said: "I feel very excited about going to MediaCity, it's the place to be for what I want to do.

"College has been really good."

Chetwynde student Harvey Wiper achieved two As and a B and he heads to Newcastle to study chemical engineering.

He said: "I feel good about my results. I worked really hard for them.

"We have really good teachers."

Chetwynde Headgirl Lexi Fox is excited about going to the University of St Andrews to study psychology and philosophy.

She achieved two As, a B, and an A in the extended project qualification with her psychology dissertation, a subject that is not taught at the school.

Lexi said: "I'm really happy with my results, we were all ecstatic.

"I'm looking forward to going to university, it is going to be amazing.

"It has been great to represent my school and support Mrs Jeffreys in her first year as headteacher."

Jordan-Louise Smith, of Chetwynde achieved two As and a C. She will study maths at Lancaster University.

Star A-Level student turns down Cambridge in favour of Barrow shipyard
