A GRAND unveiling of a Barrow pub is set to reveal a six-figure facelift.

The Strawberry in Abbey Road will open its doors tomorrow night after a 12-day revamp which has cost more than £100,000.

Coinciding with the pub's 150th birthday, deputy mayor Councillor Tony Callister will cut the ribbon and welcome the masses in for a pint and to listen to live jazz and swing music.

Beth Dawson, who manages the pub with husband Zane, said: "The place has been gutted from top to bottom and the toilets have been ripped out and are brand new.

"We launched Live and Local because we want as many local live acts as possible to come so we can make use of the sound system."

More than £18,000 has been spent on state of the art equipment aiming to make the watering hole a more pleasant place to catch live bands and watch sport.

The Dawsons have been working at the pub for about three-and-a-half years and are committed to making it as cosy and homely for locals as possible.

Mr Dawson said: "There has been lots of investment in the area recently so we pushed really hard to get some for ourselves.

"We have got a nice reputation for being a safe place so we want to keep that going and attract more people.

"We are close to home for many families, meaning they don't have to worry about taxis and getting home and it's nice to be a local pub in the community.

Doors will open at 5pm.
