A MAN suffered facial injuries after an altercation with another customer inside a popular Barrow night spot.

Barrow CID are investigating a serious assault which occurred at the Theatre Bar in Cavendish Street shortly before 3am this morning.

A 25-year-old local man sustained facial injuries after an altercation in the public bar.

The victim was later taken to Lancaster Royal Infirmary and has undergone surgery. His condition is described as stable.

A 42-year-old local man was arrested at the scene. He has been released on police bail until September 14.

Investigating officers are still seeking to identify any potential witnesses to the assault and are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or seen anything to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Mike Wallace, of South Cumbria CID, said: "It was only after the victim was transferred to Lancaster RLI the serious level of his injury was established.

"I would urge anyone who can assist the enquiry to make contact with the investigating officer Police Constable Eric McKinley from our Custody Investigation Team. Please contact 101."
