A MAN from Barrow has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was allegedly stabbed in Ormsgill this morning.

The 29-year-old Ormsgill man was taken to Furness General Hospital after an alleged incident at a house in Middle Cliff at around 10.30am this morning. His injuries have been described as serious but not life-threatening.

A 33-year-old man from the Manchester was arrested in connection with the incident shortly afterwards.

Police then launched a hunt for a second suspect, who is said to have run away from the scene after the alleged stabbing. A 29-year-old local man was arrested a few hours later.

Both men remain in custody at Barrow police station, having been arrested on suspicion of unlawful wounding with intent.

Detective Sergeant Mike Wallace of South Cumbria CID confirmed that uniformed police have been carrying out patrols in the Ormsgill area this afternoon to reassure members of the public.

Although armed police officers have been carrying out patrols following last week's terrorist attack in Manchester they were not deployed to today's incident.

DS Wallace said: "Officers are speaking to local residents anyone not already identified with relevant information is asked to make contact on 101 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
