EXCITED pupils were treated to their very own pop concert with an up-and-coming star.

Teenage singer-songwriter Josh Taylor wowed youngsters at Parkside GGI Academy, in Barrow, with a performance in their school hall.

Five-year-old pupil, Jack Long, won the chance for the singer to come to their school, along with his manager Spike Dawbarn, from the successful 1990s boyband 911.

Josh, who has almost a quarter of a million followers on social media, was one of the stars of KidFest 2015 and he will be performing at the popular event again on August 14 at Hawcoat Park, Barrow.

The 18-year-old, of Bolton, has been visiting schools around the country to inspire other youngsters to follow their dream.

Spike also spoke to the audience about his career in music.

The Parkside pupils and staff were also joined by parents and children from Year Six at Yarlside Academy.

The pupils took the chance to get autographs after the performance.

Josh said that KidFest was one of his favourite gigs of 2015, with a great crowd of all ages, and on a large outdoor stage.

He is looking forward to returning to the event this summer and doing more touring and building his fanbase.

Spike has been tutoring young people in dance at the Pop Skool sessions at Barrow's Park Leisure Centre on Sundays with Lisa Pearce, the organiser of KidFest.

Caroline Long-Hoggarth, the headteacher of Parkside GGI Academy, said: "The kids absolutely loved the event, it was just like a concert for them. It was a really good experience for them."
