A SECOND sell-out event boosted a year of fundraising for two special charities, both commemorating much-loved members of the community.

Barrow Raiders centre, Liam Harrison, welcomed 180 guests to his testimonial ball at Hawcoat Park on Friday night. The fun-filled evening of entertainment included live music, a raffle and an auction, during which England rugby league international, Chris Hill, took bids for one of his signed jerseys.

Mr Harrison said: “It was brilliant. It was just a good chance for everyone to get dressed up and enjoy themselves.”

Mr Harrison’s testimonial year kicked off with a memorable sell-out sportsman’s dinner at Hawcoat Park in November, while a testimonial match is planned between Cumbria Select and Scotland in October.

Part of the funds raised throughout the year will go to Jo’s Appeal, the charity set up in memory of Evening Mail journalist, Jo Davies. The Lake District Farmers Armstrong Family Charitable Fund, which commemorates well-known Barrow businessman Ray Armstrong, will also benefit.
