Parents of children at a rugby league club are working together to get their teams into new kits before next season kicks off.

The mums and dads are hoping that businesses and the community can help Roose Pioneers Rabbitohs get kitted out in style.

The Under Sixes, Under Sevens, Under Eights, Under 10s and Under 12s teams are currently using old, heavily worn kits that have mismatched sponsors.

'It would mean everything'

One of the parents, Jennifer Shaw-McGregor, of Brennan Close, Roose, whose nine-year-old son Jensson Shannon plays for the club, said: "They have had their kits for about nine years. They have different sponsors and are in need of repair.

"I think it would mean everything to them, they are very keen for a new kit.

"It means everything because the kids represent the club, themselves and their parents."

Some of the parents are getting together to organise a fundraiser as they look to raise money for new kits and support for the club.

The target

The club needs a minimum of 90 new kits and have set a fundraising target of £3,000 and are hoping that local businesses will also be able to get involved.

Club 'like a second family'

Connor Linton, who plays for the Under 12s squad, has been part of the club since he was five years old.

He said: "Roose Pioneers is like a second family to me. I love rugby league and everything about my sport.

"Getting a new kit would be good as the ones we use now are too small."

Ben Khoshnahal, who plays for the Under Sevens, said: "I love going to rugby training because the coaches make it so much fun.

"A new kit would make us all look really smart going out on to the pitch."
