EACH summer primary school children take part in realistic scenarios to learn important safety messages.

Hundreds of Year Six pupils took part in the Junior Citizen Scheme at Barrow Fire Station this month.

Today we look back to the scheme in the 1990s.

The fire safety, stranger danger and first aid activities have remained as key scenarios on the scheme, and in more recent years we have seen the introduction of internet safety.

We have dug deep into the archives to look at the scheme back into the 1990s when the scheme was held at Walney Fire Station.

Do you recognise yourself, a family member or friend in one of the photos?

Perhaps you were one of the Croftlands Juniors pupils taking part in cycling proficiency exams ? Or maybe you were one of the youngsters who didn't let the bogus gasman into the house during the stranger danger task?
