RESIDENTS are being urged to attend a public meeting tonight calling for weight restrictions on a road in Barrow.

A number of residents have complained about an apparent increased number of heavy goods vehicles using Flass Lane as a 'short cut' to get from Rating Lane to Roose Road. They argue the narrower Flass Lane is not suitable for such high volumes of traffic and argue that Friars Lane should be used instead.

One Holbeck resident, who asked not to be named, said he had witnessed a large number of United Utilities tankers using the road, to get to the water firm's treatment site in Rampside Road.

A public meeting is due to take place tonight at the Roose Cons Club on the roundabout between Roose Road and Rampside Road from 6.30pm.

The Evening Mail has contacted United Utilities for a response.
