RESIDENTS across south Cumbria were left star-struck as a Hollywood hero arrived on the shores of Windermere at the weekend.

David Hasselhoff was seen exploring the area yesterday as he headed to some of the top tourist destinations in the county.

Residents tweeted their surprised selfies as they spotted the screen idol wandering through the streets of Bowness.

Michelle Dale, of Fairfield Lane, in Barrow, couldn't believe her eyes when she bumped into him in the town centre.

She said: "We just went to Bowness yesterday. We had just left the Albert and went across the road to Tesco and there he was.

"We knew he was there because my friend had just taken a picture with him on Windermere Lake Cruises but when we came across him I just thought 'Oh my God!'

"I've never seen anyone famous there before but he seemed really friendly."

The Hoff has been staying at Holbeck Ghyll, in Windermere, where he sent a tweet showing that he was enjoying his luxury stay in Cumbria.

David Hasselhoff rose to fame in the 1980s when he played the role of Michael Knight in Knight Rider .

He is also most famously remembered for his performance in hit television series, Baywatch , which ran in the 1990s.

The Hoff has also hit the big screen with films such as Click , Dodgeball and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie , in addition to enjoying a career in the music industry.

The Hoff seemed to enjoy a typical tourist's day out, seeing all the famous sights on the traveller's bucket list in the Lakes.

He even took staff at Windermere Lake Cruises by surprise when he decided to step on board.

Crew member Daniel Barlow was astounded when he realised who was on the boat.

He said: “I was amazed to see none other than ‘The Hoff’ stepping on board one of our boats. He was a very friendly guy, stopping to take some photos with the crew, and he’s obviously a big fan of the area!”
