APPRENTICES showcasing a remote control hovercraft in action and NHS staff demonstrating life-saving kit, were just two of the interactive activities on offer at SkillsFest 2018.
More than 4,000 people flocked to the busy careers and skills event yesterday, which featured more than 50 organisations, from schools to businesses.

There were new exhibitors this year, including the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford, and representatives from MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, from the Walney Offshore Wind Farm extension.
A remote control hovercraft made by GSK Ulverston apprentices was a big hit. Henry Trueman, 17, of Barrow, is a first year mechanical engineering apprentice at GSK. He said: "It's been really good. There have been a lot of people coming around to look at our stand and find out about apprenticeships. SkillsFest is great for young people who may not have decided what they want to do."
Saul Holmes, 14, of Ulverston, was pleased to be able to take advice from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He said: "It's been good and it has given me an insight into careers. I'm interested in engineering so it has been very useful to speak to the Institute of Mechanical Engineers."
Saul's mum, Sarah Holmes, has attended the event in previous years with her older children, and she said that each year her children have received fantastic advice about different careers.
