A PUBLIC open day is being held to showcase a church's new and improved features made possible through lottery heritage funding.

Bell ringers from St James' Church in Barrow are hosting the event on April 15 from 11.30 until 4pm.

The Blake Street church now has an eight bell simulator, a new full colour photobook chronicling their restoration project made possible by players of the national lottery, and the Heritage Lottery Fund microgrant scheme.

Free tower tours will be taking place and volunteers are hoping to recruit some new bell ringers into the team ahead of the Armistice centenary in November.
