PUPILS danced their way through the history of Barrow during a visit to a museum.

Children from Newton Primary School enjoyed the Discover the Museum history and dance activity at Barrow's Dock Museum.

Nursery and Reception class pupils had a tour round the Grade II listed museum. The children saw fascinating objects, such as the Furness Viking hoard and Danny, the racing whippet. They also learnt about shipbuilding and the introduction of the railways.

The children then worked with dance tutor Gill Sharp to create dances inspired by their visit. The youngsters particularly enjoyed creating dances around the themes of boats and trains.

Laura Davidson, the school's Nursery and Reception class teacher said: "The children really, really enjoyed the event. They really liked being captains and train conductors in the dance."

Sabine Skae, collections and exhibitions manager at The Dock Museum, said: “Thanks to funding from the Sir John Fisher Foundation, we’ve been able to put on these great new workshops. We want schools to find out more about Barrow’s interesting history and also about the Dock Museum. We hope that their visit here will have been really fun and memorable.”
