BOSSES at major donut chain Krispy Kreme have refused to rule out they are planning on opening a store in Barrow.

The Evening Mail contacted Krispy Kreme's public relations team after a Krispy Kreme Barrow account was set up on Twitter.

The description states: "Kreme Kreme® are proud to announce the opening of a Krispy Kreme® donut/cafe in South Cumbria at Barrow-in-Furness. Coming early 2017 - Watch this space."

The account follows the official Krispy Kreme account and is followed by public relations firm MC2, which deals with the donut company's marketing for new store openings.

In light of the fake account set up which claimed to be Nando's Barrow, we quizzed Krispy Kreme and asked if the Krispy Kreme Barrow account was real.

The company's responses, after repeatedly being asked if they planned to open a donut cafe in Barrow, were somewhat vague.

We have shown the conversation in full below, so you can see what they had to say:

EVENING MAIL:

Can you confirm if this is an official KK Twitter account, and if so, where and when the new cafe will be opening? https://twitter.com/KrispykremeBIF

KRISPY KREME: I can confirm that this account is not official and is not affiliated with the brand - Krispy Kreme’s official Twitter is @krispykremeUK. Any upcoming openings will be announced on that account only.

EVENING MAIL: So Krispy Kreme is NOT opening a donut cafe in Barrow-in-Furness?

KRISPY KREME: We are actively looking to bring the joy of Krispy Kreme to new locations. We will keep our fans updated as and when we secure sites.

EVENING MAIL: Is it accurate to say Krispy Kreme has denied it is opening a cafe in Barrow-in-Furness?

KRISPY KREME: Krispy Kreme is always on the lookout for new sites across the whole UK – if the company decides to open a store in Barrow-in-Furness, you’ll be the first to know.
