DETECTIVES are investigating the circumstances of a death of a 33-year-old man in Barrow which is being treated as "unexplained".

Barrow CID confirmed that just after midnight police received a report that a 33-year-old man, originally from Millom, had been in need of medical assistance at an address in Ainslie Street, Barrow.

Police said that the man was taken to Furness General Hospital, in Barrow and that he later died at hospital.

Officers said they are investigating the circumstances of the death on behalf of the coroner and that it is being treated as "unexplained" at this time. Police said the man's family have been informed.

Detective Sergeant Wayne Dixon confirmed that two people - a 33-year-old man from Barrow and a 49-year-old man from Liverpool - have been arrested in connection with the investigation.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs and were released on bail until March 1 next year.
