IMAGES of damaged railings have been released as police continue to hunt a hit-and-run driver who crashed outside a primary school in Barrow town centre.

A number of eye-witnesses called 999 on Saturday after a black car was seen to crash into a set of railings outside St George's Primary School on the bend of Salthouse Road close to St George's Church at around 4.10pm.

The car is understood to have crashed into the railings at speed before driving off with liquid pouring from beneath the bonnet. The Evening Mail understands witnesses have provided vital evidence to police which could identify the driver.

The railings were badly damaged and have since been removed by Cumbria County Council.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who knows the identity of the driver, is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
