A GANG of street robbers armed with a baseball bat attacked a man in the street in Barrow and stole money from him.

The incident occurred at 9pm last night outside an address on St Luke's Street in Barrow.

The victim, a 29-year-old Barrow man, was attacked from behind as he was walking towards the Moorfield Street junction.

He was brought to the floor by four or five men. One of his attackers was carrying a baseball bat.

The victim sustained minor cuts and bruising after he received kicks and punches to the head and body. An amount of money was also stolen and he was left badly shaken.

The suspects fled the scene and are believed to have run away onto Cambridge Street and headed towards Risedale Road.

One of the gang was wearing a red hooded top while a second was wearing a black jacket.

Detective Sergeant Mike Wallace of South Cumbria CID Said: “This incident appears to be isolated and investigations continue to establish if there was a motive. There is no evidence to suggest the bat was used to physically attack the victim.

"We are fully investigating this incident, they do not happen often in Cumbria. I urge members of the public seeing this appeal who have any information to contact police or Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
