EMERGENCY services were called to Jubilee Bridge between Barrow and Walney where a distressed woman was threatening to jump into the channel.
The 999 call was made at around midnight last night to reports of a woman threatening to commit suicide.
Firefighters from Barrow, as well as police, paramedics and the coastguard, were called to the Barrow end of Jubilee Bridge.
Officers managed to persuade the woman to return from the edge and she was handed into the care of the paramedics.
