FOUR people have been bailed by police following the death of a 52-year-old man.

Officers arrested three men and a woman after the body of Steven Paul Pearson was discovered at his home in Smeaton Street, Barrow.

They were questioned on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A controlled drugs.

They have been released on bail but must answer to bail at Barrow Police Station on September 6.

Police were called to Mr Pearson's home at 6.30pm on Saturday July 2.

Detective Sergeant Mike Wallace of south Cumbria CID, who is leading the inquiry, said the family of the deceased had been informed and had been made aware of the updates to the investigation. They are being supported and updated by trained officers.

Neighbours of Mr Pearson are in shock after learning of his death.

A 60-year-old woman, who was a neighbour of Mr Pearson's, and wished to remain anonymous, said: "I didn't know what was going on. I heard glass smash and then someone screaming 'he's dead, he's dead'.

"It's just shocked everyone. He used to say 'hello' as he passed and was a really lovely. He used to sit out the back having a drink and chat away. People are just in shock."

The young family who also lived near Mr Pearson, said they had only spoken to him a few days ago.

The 28-year-old dad, who didn't want to be named, said his neighbour was a friendly bloke but had some very loud parties that often disturbed the family and their 15-month-old daughter.

His partner, who was 21 yesterday, said the news had rocked the close community on the Barrow street.

She added: "He was an ok bloke, but we had some issues over the noise at weekends with his parties."

Another neighbour, aged 26, said: "Stevo was just someone I said 'hello' to when I saw him. I came home and saw the police and the ambulance last night but didn't know what was going on.

"Everyone is in shock."

The four arrested in connection with incident were a 48-year-old male, two 21-year-old men along with a 25-year-old female, all from the Barrow area.

Anyone with information should contact DS Wallace and his team on 101.
