RESIDENTS are set to benefit from new kerbside plastic and cardboard recycling collections.

Those living in Bardsea, Baycliff, Newbiggin, Roosebeck, Aldingham and Goadsbarrow, or on the Coast Road, will be given new re-usable blue bags for storing plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, as well as cans, on Wednesday June 8. Residents in Leece, Dendron, Scales and Gleaston will receive theirs the following day.

A small number of properties in Bardsea and Baycliff and on the Coast Road will be moved onto the collections at a later date, as they are on a round requiring a different vehicle due to access issues.

When residents start using the blue bag for plastic and cans, they should use one existing box for glass only. The other should be used for paper and card, ensuring that the card is kept separate from the paper. All boxes and bags will be picked up on the next scheduled collection date.

The latest expansion of kerbside collections by South Lakeland District Council means that nearly 50 per cent of the district will soon be receiving plastic and cardboard kerbside recycling. The aim is for the whole district to be covered by the end of March 2017.
