A HOTEL owner has submitted plans for the site of the former Yates pub in Barrow which was demolished three years ago.

Yates in Duke Street was closed in March 2013 after the building was deemed to be structurally unsafe. Demolition began the following year and the site is now a level piece of land bordered by security fencing.

The land was put on the market but failed to attract any investors, and the site has remained unused since.

Last January, plans were submitted to convert the land into a car park for the neighbouring Jefferson's Hotel, but the application was rejected over concerns about the perimeter fencing, a decision which was later upheld by the planning inspectorate.

New plans have now been submitted to Barrow Borough Council by the same applicant - Jefferson's owner Steve Johnson, who hopes his revised car park plans will be accepted by councillors.

The car park would be made up of 13 spaces, to be used by guests of the Jefferson's Hotel.

The border of the car park would have a brick wall with pillars and decorative steel railings. The car park's entrance will be along the side in Forshaw Street.

A decision on the planning application is due to be made by March 22.
