FEATS of fundraising and fortitude were celebrated on Thursday night as the Forum in Barrow hosted the Keswick to Barrow awards evening.

The GSK Trophy for top fundraising team was awarded to Pam's Pathcrunchers, a group of six school-friends hailing from Lichfield, Staffordshire.

Raising more than £6,000, the group was led by Greg Meek and inspired by his mum Pam, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's two years ago.

Ian Elson pushed daughter Connie all the way through the Coniston to Barrow in her wheelchair, and thanked his daughter as he collected the Pierce Armstrong Memorial Award for highest individual fundraiser - generating a record £5,142.

The pair were supported by a wider team from charity Butterfly Hugs, who took home the Alice Pyne Memorial Trophy for the C2B team raising the largest amount for charity.

The vital support of the National Trust was recognised by the Gordon Howell President's Trophy, awarded to the organisation's Simon Hill.

Both John Wood and John Robinson were celebrating a landmark 30th walk in 2017, and on the evening each was presented with a tankard to recognise the feat.

Overall, this year's event raised £387,600 for 238 different charities and good causes in the area - a new record.

Representatives from the charities were in attendance for the presentation of the cheques.
