A BARROW man is due to appear in court accused of claiming benefits spanning a four year period despite his mobility needs changing and him getting a job.

Paul Crawford of Middle Field in Barrow has been charged with four counts of benefit fraud.

The 43-year-old is accused of:

1. Failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions of a change in circumstances while claiming Disability Living Allowance between May 2012 and March 2016 while both he and his wife were in work and his care needs had improved;

2. Failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions of a change in circumstances while claiming Employment and Support Allowance between October 2015 and February 2016 while both he and his wife were in work and his care needs had improved;

3. Failing to notify Barrow Borough Council of a change in circumstances while claiming Housing Benefit between December 2013 and December 2015 while both he and his wife were in work and his care needs had improved;

4. Failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions of a change in circumstances while claiming Employment and Support Allowance between November 2013 and December 2015 while both he and his wife were in work and his care needs had improved.

His wife, Toni Crawford, is accused of failing to disclose information to the Department for Work and Pensions and making a false representation on a Disability Living Allowance claim form.

Both Paul and Toni Crawford are due to appear at Furness Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
