WORK has started on a major refurbishment of McDonald's in Barrow town centre.

The overhaul will include an entire interior revamp, a new shopfront with granite plinths, a 47-inch LCD screen inside the restaurant, new signs and a 10.2 square metre extension to the front of the premises.

The new look will bring the Barrow town centre restaurant in line with other, more modern McDonald's outlets in other parts of the UK.

Franchisee Chris Nicholls started his career at McDonald's more than 30 years ago and bought both Barrow restaurants in 2012.

He now owns and operates eight restaurants across Cumbria including outlets in Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven, Penrith and Kendal.
