TODAY we delve into The Mail photo archives to take a look at Barrow Market over the decades.

Volunteer researchers are working with Signal Films and Media on a project celebrating the history and personal stories of Barrow Market.

Market Tales is being run until next April by the Furness-based charity. The Mail has provided archive photographs and The Mail's Memories Page writer Bill Myers has also contributed to the project.

Barrow Market's famous former children's roundabout appears in today's photo gallery.

The roundabout - which featured the popular double decker bus ride - was sold off by owner Frank Baker who retired in 1996 after running the attraction for 45 years.

After Christmas there will be a series of hands-on workshops with artists, writers and historians to interpret what has been discovered about the market and its history through sound, live theatre and filmmaking, as well as an online blog and a final printed publication.

Signal Film and Media is to collaborate with The Ashton Theatre Group to deliver an exciting finale performance to be held in the market in Easter 2018.
