PUPILS are reaping the benefits of an inclusive and interactive sensory facility.

Ormsgill Nursery and Primary School, in Barrow, has officially opened its Thrill and Chill Sensory Room.

The state-of-the-art sensory room can be used by all the pupils, including children with learning difficulties or anxiety issues.

Whole classes, small groups and individuals all look forward to exciting lessons and games using the interactive technology on the floor and wall surfaces.

The relaxing environment also includes LED lighting features, bubble tube, infinity mirrors and more.

The facility was donated in memory of the late Barrow couple, Les and Dorcas Gay. Dan Abernethy, who was a friend of Mr and Mrs Gay, officially opened the sensory room, which cost just under £30,000.

Dawn Hubbold, the deputy headteacher of Ormsgill Nursery and Primary School, in Mill Bank, said the pupils and teachers love using the environment which can be a relaxing space, or a buzzy place with exciting interactive games.

Mrs Hubbold said: "It's an amazing space. We can take a whole class in there and use the interactive facilities for storytelling, phonics, music activities and games.

"We feel so, so lucky to have our sensory room. It's state-of-the-art.

"It's having a great impact, it's the most popular place in school."
