HUNDREDS of people have voted overwhelmingly in favour for the food chain they would like to see open up in Barrow town centre.
Lakes Bakery and Cafe at the bottom end of Dalton Road in the town centre has been closed for a number of months with a "Sorry, closed for today" sign posted in the window. The shop's website, www.lakesbakery.co.uk, is no longer accessible and a message on the telephone number states it is "not in service".
The Evening Mail has since received information which points to a new tenant poised to take over the premises. The Evening Mail also understands talks are under way for a new food outlet to open in the former Lakes Bakery.
As a result, we asked our readers which food outlet they would like to see open in Barrow town centre, with an overwhelming 64 per cent voting in favour of Burger King.
The global hamburger retailer previously operated a Dalton Road premises in the former Conlons and now Vision Express store but the restaurant closed in 1997. The nearest Burger King outlets are in Carlisle and Carnforth.
A total of 538 people voted in our poll, with the results as follows:
Burger King - 345 votes - 64 per cent
Independent outlet - 96 votes - 18 per cent
Starbucks - 72 votes - 13 per cent
