THE rail company in charge of the South Lakes network is to install a new managing director.

David Brown, former chief executive of Transport for the North will be leaving his role to become the managing director of Arriva Rail North - the franchise which operates through Barrow.

He will be stepping into a role that has had a fair share of controversy in recent years, including multiple strikes, and criticism of old and unreliable carriages.

John Cridland, TfN chairman said: “David leaves Transport for the North with our thanks and best wishes for the future. He has been instrumental in developing TfN’s vision of a thriving north of England, where modern transport connections drive economic growth and support an excellent quality of life."

Mr Brown will start his new role at Arriva in September.
